How to Go Live on Conifer 🔴

Going live with your attendees on Conifer is simple. Really, really simple. Nevertheless, we want you to feel confident and comfortable when you stream on our platform. This brief tutorial should arm you with all of the knowledge you need to go live, whether it's your very first time or you're a seasoned livestreaming veteran.

First, before we jump in, let's make one thing clear: You don't need any software in order to go live on Conifer.

That's right! You don't need Zoom, Webex, or any other video-conferencing apps for your live video. And even better, you don't need OBS or any broadcasting software to manage your stream. Our web app handles everything, and right in your browser.

That means no downloads! Feels good, doesn't it? 🥳

Now that we've cleared that up, on to the tutorial!

Going live on Conifer: Step by Step

Step 1: Set up your livestream

Before you can go live, you need a livestream (duh). When you first join Conifer, we automatically create your first livestream using the template you selected during signup. If you're a rebel, you can also create one by yourself by hitting "Create a Livestream" in the left navigation bar. One way or another, you'll need to set up a livestream and schedule your livestream sessions to your liking. For more detailed instructions on using the Livestream Builder, check out our separate tutorial here.

Build your livestream and schedule your sessions

Step 2: Join your livestream

When it's time to start your livestream with your attendees, go to your homepage and click the "Join" button on your livestream card.

This will take you to the Lounge for your livestream. Think of this like a reception area where your attendees can access the livestream schedule, file attachments, and more. Whenever you're ready, just click "Join Session" on your first session and you're in!

Step 3: Allow camera and microphone access

When you click to join your session, you're not live to your attendees quite yet. But you're almost there!

If it's your first time on Conifer, your browser will prompt you to allow camera and microphone permissions. This is how it looks on Chrome, and on other browsers it looks very similar. Make sure to hit "Allow" (or however your browser phrases it).

Step 4: Preview and go live

After allowing camera and microphone permissions, Conifer provides you with one last preview before you are officially live. If necessary, here you can change your camera or microphone source. Otherwise, if you're happy with your setup, click "Accept and Go Live" to start streaming with your attendees!

Step 5: There is no Step 5. You're live!

Boom, you're live! At this point, your attendees who are in the room can see you, hear you, and send you messages in the chat area.

As you'd expect, you have a standard set of controls you can use at any point:

  • Turn your camera on or off
  • Turn your microphone on or off
  • Screenshare
  • End the livestream

Additionally, we have a few features you can use to get your attendees involved and make your livestream more interactive.

1. Invite individual attendees onto live video, to answer questions or have a conversation in front of the group.

2. Start Activity Mode to invite up to 6 attendees onto video at once, first come first serve.

We won't go over these features here, but to learn more, feel free to check out our tutorial on Getting Interactive with Your Attendees.

Wrapping up

When you're done with your first session and ready to move on to the next one, you can just click exit that livestream, head back to the Lounge, and you can join the next one.

For now, this is everything you need to know to go live on Conifer. If you have any questions, our support team is always accessible. Feel free to message us using the chat bubble in the bottom right corner of your screen, or by dropping us a line here.

Common questions related to going live

Q: What kind of livestreaming quality can me and my attendees expect on Conifer? What's the video resolution?

A: All livestreams on Conifer are 1080p and low latency (< 2 seconds).

Q: Is there a limit on my number of attendees? And how many of them can have their video on at once?

A: You can have up to 100 attendees in a Conifer livestream. And you can have 7 videos visible at once to your attendees. This 7 can be any combination of your devices or your attendees you've invited onto video, but the total limit is 7. We've found that more than 7 videos gets difficult to manage anyways!

Q: Does Conifer record my livestreams?

A: Yep, we automatically record your livestreams for you to use however you please. Unless you don't want us to. In that case, you can just turn off the session recording option in your livestream builder.
